Custom Metal Fabrication in Delaware & Eastern Maryland

Sometimes the part you need doesn't exist, or the one you can buy doesn't fit. That's where fabrication comes in. RickTheWelder builds custom parts in steel, stainless and aluminum, from a single bracket to a full production run, in our Townsend shop or right on your site. We work for homeowners, farms, contractors and businesses across New Castle County and Kent County, Delaware, plus Eastern Maryland.

Built to Your Drawings or Specs

Send us a print, a sketch or a spec sheet and we'll fabricate to it. Customers send us their shop drawings, spec sheets and architectural details, and we build the parts to match. Examples include:

  • Security cages and enclosures, like AC unit cages, built from angle iron, flat bar and expanded metal

  • Stair rails and handrails made to an architectural detail

  • Welded posts on base plates, drilled for anchors, and brackets made in production runs

No drawing? A few measurements and a photo of where it goes are enough to get started, and we can sketch it out with you.

From the drawing to the build: a customer's spec sheet for an expanded-metal security cage, and the cages we built from it in our shop.

One-Offs and Production Runs

Need one part or a stack of them? For a production run we cut all the blanks first, drill them, set up a fit-up so every piece comes out the same, weld them, then clean and paint them. The photos on this page show one of those runs: steel plate cut to size, clamped up square, welded, and painted black.

Steel, Stainless and Aluminum

Rick is a certified welder who MIG, TIG and stick welds steel, stainless and aluminum, so the material can be chosen for the job: steel for strength and cost, stainless for food service and wet areas, aluminum where weight and corrosion matter. A manufacturer chose him as its on-site repair specialist, so getting it right the first time is his everyday work.

Shop or on Site

Most fabrication happens in our Townsend shop, where parts are cut, drilled, fit and welded on the table. A magnetic drill with annular cutters puts clean holes through heavy plate and beams, in the shop or on site. When something has to be built to fit in place, or installed where it lives, the mobile welding rig brings the shop to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you build from my drawing?

Yes. Send a print, sketch or spec sheet by email or text, and we'll fabricate to it.

I don't have a drawing. Can you still build it?

Yes. Measurements and a couple of photos of where the part goes are usually enough, and we'll work out the details with you.

Do you do production runs or just one-offs?

Both. We build single custom parts and runs of identical brackets, posts and parts.

What materials do you work with?

Steel, stainless steel and aluminum.

Do you paint or finish the parts?

We can prime and paint, and parts can also be built ready for powder coating or galvanizing. Ask when you call.
