Custom Porch & Stair Railings for Your Home

A wobbly wooden rail on the front steps, a new porch with nothing to hold onto, or a set of concrete stairs that never had a railing at all: a custom metal railing fixes all of them and looks better than anything off the shelf. RickTheWelder builds steel and aluminum porch, stair and deck railings for homeowners in Middletown, Dover, Smyrna, Townsend and across New Castle County and Kent County, Delaware, plus Eastern Maryland. We measure, build it in our Townsend shop and install it at your house.

New Railing or Repair?

This page is about new, custom railings for your home. If you already have a metal railing that's loose, rusted at the post or broken at a weld, that's a repair, and it's usually cheaper. See Gates, Fences & Railings. General contractors who need railings built to a set of drawings should see Misc. Metals & Railings for Contractors.

Parking lot and sidewalk handrails, including alterations, are regular work for us. We do them on site with the mobile welding rig, so the lot stays open and nothing has to be hauled away.

Built by a Certified Welder

Rick is a certified welder. He has fabricated powder coated handrails for a movie theater, done parking lot handrail alterations, and once fabricated a rail at 2am so a customer could pass a 9am inspection. Your front steps get the same care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you build railings for homeowners, or just contractors?

Homeowners are who this page is for. Most of our new railings go on front porches, stoops and stairs at people's houses.

Steel or aluminum?

Aluminum doesn't rust and is a good fit near the water or where you don't want to repaint. Steel is heavier and stiffer and costs less in some designs. Rick can walk you through it when you call.

Will it meet code?

Height and spacing rules come from your local building code. If your project has a permit or an inspection, tell us and we'll build to the dimensions it calls for.

Do you paint or powder coat?

We prime and paint on site where it makes sense, and new railings can be built ready for powder coating. Ask when you call.

Can you match my neighbor's railing or the one on my back steps?

Often, yes. Send photos of the railing you want to match, with a close-up of the posts and pickets.

Where do you work?

Middletown, Dover, Smyrna, Townsend, Odessa, Camden-Wyoming and all of New Castle County and Kent County, Delaware, plus Eastern Maryland.

Front steps that need a railing? Send Rick a photo and he'll tell you what it'll take. Call or text (302) 532-6240.
