Frame Rust: Repair or Replace?

Road salt sits on the underside of Delaware cars all winter, so frame rust is common on older cars and trucks. Surface rust can usually be cleaned up and coated. Thin or rotted sections can often be cut out and new steel welded in, as long as there is solid metal around them to weld to.

If a frame is rotted through over a long stretch, a patch may not be safe or worth the money. Rick will look at it and tell you straight whether it makes sense to repair.

Welding Only, Not a Body Shop

RickTheWelder does the welding. Paint, body filler, alignment and engine or mechanical work go to your body shop or mechanic. If your mechanic finds a broken frame mount or exhaust part, they can send it our way, or you can bring the car in.

At the Shop or at Your Place

If the car drives, bring it to the shop in Townsend. Call ahead first, since Rick is often out on jobs. If it doesn't drive, Rick brings a mobile welding setup to your driveway, across Townsend, Middletown, Odessa and the rest of New Castle and Kent County, plus Eastern Maryland.
